Blubber Investigation in P1SM 🦭🐧
20th Jan 2023
Our topic is Brrrr, It's Cold! We have been learning about animals that live in cold places such as the Arctic and Antarctic.
Today we carried out a Science experiment to find out how the layer of blubber (which is underneath their skin) keeps animals warm when they are swimming in icy cold waters.
We filled a bowl with icy water and then squished lard into a bag. We then surrounded this with another bag to make a blubber glove. We put one hand in the glove which was in the icy bowl and one hand in the icy water. We couldn't believe how the lard kept our hands warm!
