P1LB STEM ‘Build a Bridge for a Gingerbread Man’ 🌉
As part of our topic ‘Stories from long, long ago’ we read the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We stopped reading at the part where the gingerbread man needed to cross the river and discussed how we could build a bridge for him instead of getting gobbled up by the fox 🦊! We tested 5 different materials - paper, card, bricks, wood and metal. We predicted how well we thought each of the materials would hold the gingerbread man and then we tested them. We used language such as ‘light, heavy, strong, bendy, tough’. To finish the lesson we looked at photographs of real bridges and the materials they are made from. We decided that metal would be the best material for a bridge.
