We read a story called Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne which gave Handa a surprise of a basket full of tangerines. Mrs Scholes then explained that Handa used all of the tangerines to build a pyramid where the bottom layer was made up of 5 rows of 5. The children’s challenge was to work out how many tangerines Handa had altogether. Mrs Scholes was amazed buy the constructing, counting, recording and teamwork!!!
