P2DG Maths Investigations and science experiments
P2 we’re learning how to collect data and represent it using a bar graph. They each had to ask 10 friends to chose a favourite shop. When they had collected the information needed they learned how to create a bar graph using their data. They all were really interested in learning this and were very quick to create their bar graphs.
We also did a science experiment about dissolving. The children had to decided what they thought would dissolve in the water and what would not. In this experiment the class made excellent predictions and were pleased that they had guessed correctly.
Using the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ the class had to work in teams to try and solve how Handa could stack the tangerines in her basket so that they wouldn’t fall out. The base layer was 5 x 5 which the groups made first, they then had to make the next layer, 4 x 4 and so on until they had a pyramid shaped stack. They had to record how many bricks/spools/counters were in each layer. Easy when you know how and working on your own but in a team can sometimes add to the challenge 😊
